On Friday 2nd of September 2016, Harcourts – The Property People and other Harcourts offices throughout NSW, along with their families, friends and supporters, joined forces with White Ribbon Australia to take a stand against domestic violence at the annual “Walk a Mile in their Shoes” fundraiser. Similar events were conducted with Harcourts offices throughout Australia!
Over 150 people braved the wet conditions, donned their best high heels and paraded down Queen Street to increase public awareness of domestic violence against women, and the impact that this has on families – especially women and children.
This walk united our community; highlighting the fact that violence against women is in fact a community issue. “Walk a Mile in Their Shoes” is an education and fundraising campaign led by the Harcourts Foundation, with all proceeds going to White Ribbon’s “Breaking the Silence” program in primary and secondary schools across Australia, aimed at creating generational change in attitudes toward violence.
The fundraiser was a huge success, with our office raising $14,080 – our target amount was $5000! This community generosity meant that our office generated well-over double our target, and more money than another other Harcourts office throughout Australia – an awesome achievement!
In total, the “Walk a Mile in their Shoes” fundraiser raised $110,000 for White Ribbon Australia.
I’d like to sincerely thank my entire team for getting behind this event, and also all of the Macarthur community who have so generously supported and encouraged our office. I would also like to thank Harcourts Corporate NSW, and members of our Harcourts offices throughout NSW who attended the walk and gathered donations.
I would also like to thank every single person, company, and tradesperson that donated money towards this fundraiser – every dollar counts, and all of this will go towards changing attitudes and behaviour within our communities.
“Walk a Mile in their Shoes” was a top event – and it just goes to show what an awesome community we live and work in!
